Explanation :-
Hallux Valgus
- Hallux valgus is considered to be a medial deviation of the first metatarsal and lateral deviation and/or rotation of the hallux, with or without medial soft-tissue enlargement of the first metatarsal head.
- This condition can lead to painful motion of the joint or difficulty with footwear
Etiology :
- Arthritic/metabolic conditions that may cause hallux valgus include the following:
- Gouty arthritis
- Rheumatoid arthritis
- Psoriatic arthritis
- Connective tissue disorders such as Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, Marfan syndrome, Down syndrome, and ligamentous laxity
- Traumatic conditions that may cause hallux valgus include the following:
- Malunions
- Intra-articular damage
- Soft-tissue sprains
- Structural deformities that may cause hallux valgus include the following:
- Malalignment of articular surface or metatarsal shaft
- Abnormal metatarsal length
- Metatarsus primus elevatus
Treatment : Chevron osteotomy
